A Star is Born, which Bradley Cooper directed for the first time in 2018, stunned both critics and audiences.
It went on to win eight nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cooper, Best Actress for Lady Gaga, Best Supporting Actor for Sam Elliott, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The movie’s winning song was “Shallow.” After a break of five years, Cooper is back in the director’s chair with the much awaited biopic Maestro, in which he plays the renowned composer Leonard Bernstein.

The movie had been stuck in development for a while; at one point, Cooper was supposed to helm the picture, but industry heavyweights Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg had already been engaged.
Spielberg chose Cooper to helm the movie, according to Cooper, after he saw an advance screening of A Star is Born.

We started to see how appropriate he was for the position in ways that hadn’t even occurred to us at first because of his energy and the way he interacted with others. He also reminded us more and more of our dad.
Because our mother was such a nuanced and complicated person with so many quirks, we weren’t sure what to anticipate,” Jamie adds.
We weren’t sure whether anyone could truly capture her spirit because she was also a very private person. And how Carey really accomplished that is simply the most ridiculous thing.”
